Translator, literary critic, Doctor of Philology,
WUA member since 2003


Born in 1948, February 16, Tbilisi, Georgia.
A graduate of RA NAS Literature Institute after M. Abeghyan, the post-graduated courses. In 1974 he upheld the candidate dissertation and in 1989 the Doctor thesis (Sayat-Nova, Life and Work, published in 1988). Then he worked at the same Institute, at National Theatre efter G. Sundukyan. He worked at Yerevan State University, in the department of Romano-German languages. He was lecturing French Literarure of Middle Ages. With Bakhchinyan's efforts numerous research and critical articles, notes devoted to great poets such as Sayat-Nova, Pakhtasar Dpir, Yeghishe Charents were published in Armenian and Diaspora press. He was the co-author of the Literature text-book (the 9-th form, 1-st edition in 1993). He translates as well. In 1975-99 he assembled and published more than a dozen of translated books. He runs the Literature and Art Museum after Yeghishe Charents since 1992.
