AVAGYAN SOPHIE
Translator, 1976 Member of the Writers’ Union of Armenia
Born December 29th, 1930, Oshagan village, Ashtarak region (Now Arakadzodni
marz).
Graduate of Yerevan State University Department of Philology, Romano-German
division. Worked in the Writers’ Union of Armenia Literary Press
(“Sovietakan Grokh” and "Grakan Tert"). Later she
worked in the Writers’ Union Division of International contacts.
In this capacity she established contacts between foreign and soviet publishers,
printers and individual writers. At their request she has formed collections
of prose and poetry by Armenian writers. Aside from her work she did translations,
and wrote articles and reviews concerning the art of translation.
